Headfonics is a good source, and the discussions have a much better signal to noise ratio than most other sites.

Val also said the M100 would likely be ready for review in February, and now it's April and no word at all. That could also be interesting, supposedly as the upgrade from the M80. Since I'm on the list for that one, I'm hoping I'll get one and it will be good.

I ordered a Shure 1440 for next week. I didn't want to pay for one, but nobody is discounting these things - very price controlled. But if it sounds reasonably close to the 1840 then that might be a better alternative to the 1840. I did a compare of the graphs using HeadRoom's facility and did a paste-up here. It looks slightly brighter than the 1840, which may not be a problem since the 1840 isn't especially bright, but the bass has me worried.

I read Marcus' review of the HP100, which correlated pretty well with other reviews I read. This would be a great trend if everyone did this, since so many reviews either don't tell you how something really sounds or else they're just way off. So the HP100 looks like a good bet for all-around listening with a variety of music types.

One site I read said they come with pleather and velour pads both. Is that right? It also said the wooden cups are made in Russia, but it didn't say where the entire headpone is made? The price seems amazingly low.

Hi Dale you are correct they come with both pleather and velour pads and my preference was for the pleather overall though your mileage may vary depending on your tastes and yes some sites have them at $180 which is not bad actually. I cannot be sure where the actual headphone originated from but plenty of wood choices for the cups judging by the online retails sites.
