I own a pair of Grado SR80 headphones, a Bose Cinemate and a Sony Bravia LCD TV. I want to listen to DVDs and Blu Rays without disturbing my partner. The Bose system does not have a headphone socket, the Bravia's output via headphones is poor and the cable on the Grados isn't long enough.

Do I need wireless, sound cancelling headphones?

Or would a headphone amplifier do the trick?

Wireless headphones would solve the cable length problem, but unfortunately the sound quality with wireless still does not compare well with equivalently priced wired headphones.

A headphone amplifier would let you connect headphones via a line level left/right audio output (if the source equipment has this). For example the Project Head Box II could be used to provide a good quality headphone output. You could then run a headphone extension cable to your seating.
