As you guessed from the title, I'm looking for a pair of headphones, in ear ones to be more specific, they need to be roughly £40, maybe £45, I know with that price I won't get amazing headphones, but if anyone knows the best possible headphones for the price please tell me.

Any information is greatly appreciated, thanks :)

There are a few amazing earphones for under £40! Have a look at these -

SoundMAGIC PL11 In-Ear Isolating Earphones in Gunmetal (PL 11)
£19.96 - Baby bass monster that has to be one of the best value to quality ratio earphones on the market.

SoundMAGIC PL21 In-Ear Sound Isolating Earphones in Black
£22.96 - Runaway success since this model was never marketed or advertised in the UK but is still really popular. Simple light sound.

AiAiAi Pipe In-Ear Sound Isolating Earphones Grey Gradient
£29.95 - Chunky bass sound, funky design - Sturdy and fun sounding.

SoundMAGIC PL30 In-Ear Sound Isolating Earphones in Black
£29.99 - Measured and balanced sound - These are used in Pro Audio as in expensive on stage monitors. Seriously good for complex detailed music.

SoundMAGIC E10 In-Ear Sound Isolating Earphones Black & Silver
£34.99 - New king of budget in ears, chunky bass compelling sound - Fun, exciting and excellent build quality.

    Pioneer SE-CL531-E Dynamic In-Ear Earphones Red (SECL531)
£39.95 - Contemporary bass heavy sound.

SoundMAGIC E30 In-Ear Sound Isolating Earphones in Black
£40.00 - Brand new version of the PL30 measured and balanced sounding. Seriously good for complex detailed music.

These are all good but pick for the style of music you like:)

I bought the SoundMagic pl50s, howdo they compare to each of those models you suggested?

Light on bass but beautifully detailed - They have a similar feel to Etymotics except for the price which has a much nicer feel! :)

Damn, I wanted bass as well :(

So would you say that between the E30s and the Pl50s, you'd get the PL50s?

I prefer the PL30 or E30, E30 actually sound better to me - slightly brighter in a good way with better controlled bass. I would go for the E30 but the PL50 sound incredible for Classical music!

So it would seem I've chosen entirely the wrong pair of headphones :p classical music isn't really what I listen to, at all. Ah well, they should at least be a decent step up from my last pair of earphones, thanks for your help :)
