My son is deaf in his right ear and doesn't think the volume is good enough with his current ipod speakers. What would be best - in-ear or on-ear headphones - he is trying to eliminate background noise

    Thanks

    Hi Graham,

This is definitely a question for a hearing professional who understands the reason behind the loss of hearing on his right side.

Both closed back and in ear headphones produce a sound pressure inside the chamber they form with the ear. Applying high sound pressure can damage the workings of the inner ear. A left and right controller could help with this. Although we do have one -

Sennheiser Headphone Extension Cable with Volume Control (05248)
    £24.95

    -
it has a very long cable which would probably not make it particularly usable for this application.

I don't really feel qualified to recommend something without knowing a bit more. Feel free to call us for a more in depth chat:)
