So this is always a hot subject in the audiophile world, do cables make a difference, or will a £500 silver cable sound the same as a coat hanger.

I personally believe in small differences between cables, usually with Silver, and Silver Plated Copper having a slightly brighter sound over copper.

Please do express your thoughts, I fell that cables should usually be the last upgrade in a system, and the differences are not night and day, but they are there in my opinion.

If memory serves, I once got an old HD222 with the original steel cable. I tried it with a copper replacement cable and the bass was awful so I switched back. The HD222 is a terrible headphone without modding and has the 'closed back in the early 80s' sound of reverberating sound waves, but the cable difference was clear to me.

Having said that, I've sat and listened to an HD600 with stock cable powering one side and a fancy aftermarket cable on the other (from the same source) and couldn't spot any difference between left and right sides at all. Also when using them in the usual way I couldn't tell any difference.

When I changed from 18 gauge "lamp cord" to 14 gauge cord, or various audiophile cables for speakers, the difference was amazing, especially astounding in the bass. Some cables will kill highs if they have too much capacitance. But in headphones, to hear much of a difference you need highly resolving components.

I do agree that with some headphones it is more noticeable than others, most of my cable testing is done with my custom monitors, the Inearz P350, which are not expensive, but I have been using them for over 2 years and know the sound so small differences are noticeable.

Speaker cable is an interesting one, I only have a basic speaker setup and tired some fancy cables, that did make them sound a little clearer, but was definitely not worth the price.

Heres a little cable I knocked up last night (silver plated copper from Toxic cables), along with a selection of others I have, and more to be added I am sure.

Effect Audio Ares II is possibly the best "budget" upgrade cable, if it has good synergy with your IEM's.

It retains the warmth of copper down low, with impactful and full bodies lows, but has a bit more presence in the upper mid range/lower treble that really brings out some extra sparkle. I don't know how they've done it, but it's fantastic.

That does look like a great cable, how would you define the sound?

Provide better soundstage, separation , great detail and clarity.

Due to mix with 5% gold darker background is really huge improvement.

Using with the custom UE18+ Pro.

This matching provide a better quiet background due to the mix of gold in the cable.
