Great review. The original T50rp thread on head-fi is one of the all-time classics, so Mr. Speakers had a goldmine ready to harvest on that one. I had an early Yamaha in the late 1970's that I thought was the dullest thing I ever heard, and yet I see people claiming those sound good. The LCD2/3 and HiFiMan orthos are big, so I assume the drivers are big too. I wonder how much of that driver space and magnetic control over its membrane the Fostex has compared to the big guys.

Thanks Dale! I also wonder if how the T50rp compares to headphones like the LCD-2. I think the LCD-2 driver is a fair big bigger than the T50rp.

It just seems like a rule of physics or something, that the orthos will have awesome bass and midrange detail, but will be a bit shy on treble detail. Unless I missed something.

Here is a nice pic of the T50P driver - basically the stock is all mids.

The Hifiman range which is ortho except for the HE300 is very articulate in the trebles to be honest, the LCD-2 is shelved down on the treble with great bass and the T50rp is pretty much a mid centric can and not much else.

It's a huge difference in price though. How much of that price difference is in the driver?

The HE6 is their top end at $1299 but the HE400 is $399 and the T50RP stock is $100. The HE6 scales so much better than the LCD-2.
