Hi I have a budget of £300ish to get myself a new pair of cans.

In the past I have had DT770 Pro & Alessandro MS2i.

I want something that is detailed, has a tight fast bass and great instrument separation.

For my portable listening I have the Adagio 3.

    Ideas are:

Beyerdynamic DT770 pro - re buy a set
    German Maestro 450 pro
    Denon AH-D600
    Beyerdynamic DT880
    Shure SRH 940
    HiFiMAN HE-300

    Im open to suggestions.

After experiencing Grado/Alessandro I feel i want a change of signature.

That's a decent list of headphones, but the requirements are vague. I think most of us want what you described, but most of those on your list could be construed as meeting those requirements to some degree.

Most if not all of the better headphones here are detailed and have great instrument separation, but just how tight or fast the bass might be is problematic, i.e. tighter and faster is usually lighter as well.

I think the DT880 could be a good choice for what you are looking for - they have crisp clarity, tight bass and very good separation. As Dale said though, a tighter bass is lighter and the DT880s certainly have that.

    What is your source?

That might just be the ticket. Edd of NobleHifi, one of the occasional posters here, has the DT880 as one of his top favorites.
