I am using some random sony headphones i bought from HMV (cost 20quid)
I am planning to buy a Phonak Audéo Perfect Bass Earphones 012 Colour Black.
I mostly listen to pop music or rap. SOmetimes R&B
is this headphone suitable for me??
    also
i have tried the Sennheiser PX200 recently from my friend.
I think the sound is amazing.
Does the phonak PBE 012 have better sound than PX200 or worse or similar??

BTW, i am using iphone mostly for music, sometimes pc for movies.

    THanks very much.

    Hi HughKK

Phonak 012 are fantastic headphones but they are not the first ones I would recommend to someone with a love of Hip Hop. This is because they have a very flat EQ - Excellent for Rock and Classical as they are really detailed and clean but they are not bass monsters.

Similar in quality but more chunky at the bottom end are

AiAiAi Swirl In-Ear Sound Isolating Earphones in Black
    £44.95
Klipsch Image S4 Sound Isolating Earphones in Black
£69.95 - I think you would love these
Beyerdynamic DTX100 Earphones in Black (DTX 100)
£75.95 - Big warm sound, these work great for Hip Hop and Dance
    :)

    how about pop music?
    is it DTX100 is better?
also, will it be less comfy than phonak? or there's no big difference?

    also,
i don't like heavy bass which rattles my ear, I prefer the vocal sound to stand out more. Can phonak do the job for me? i say great reviews for phonak round this site, so i think i prefer one.

    Phonak Audéo PFE 012 v Beyerdynamic DTX100

The Beyerdynamic DTX100/MMX100 are different to the Phonak Audéo PFE 012 in many ways. They use a different kind of speaker (dynamic v balanced armature), which makes them sound very different, and also have a very different way of fitting in the ear.

The PFE 012 has a much more refined sound, due to the balanced armature driver. This means bass is tight and well controlled (not big and powerful) and the midrange is very detailed (hence they reproduce vocals and acoustic instruments really well). It reproduces nearly all styles of music very well, but won't emphasise bass.

The DTX100/MMX100 has a big chunky, fun sound (thanks to the dynamic speaker) with plenty of smooth, warm bass. It suits rap, hip hop or anything with a big bassline. Most people will prefer the sound of the DTX100, even if it isn't 100% accurate to the original recording.

The bass is quite dominant with the DTX100/MMX100, but hopefully it won't cause you pain ;)

If you like picking out all the detail in your music, e.g. hearing each of the instruments separately, then the PFE is excellent. If you like a solid kick to the bass then the DTX100/MMX100 is the one to go for.

I know it's really tough without being able to actually hear them!

i think i might go with the phonak
because the reviews aren't so good for dtx100 and i am not a bass fan either

    thanks very much

I have the PFE 112's and i did have the green filters that are on the 012's but i didnt really notice much change in the bass. I use the black filters with the PFE's and that is a good all-round sound.... the grey filters are fantastically crystal clear sound but lack a little mid / low end sound.
The bass is really solid and defined on some tracks but really gutless and hardly there on others.... i have no idea why they give really good bass with some music and not others?

With the music types you like i would say the PFE's would be fine mostly but if you want the extra bass for rap / hip-hop etc i think you will be a little dissappointed TBH. I would rather have a deeper bass line but then i would loose detailed sound quality which the PFE's are amazing at picking out so thats enough for me to sacrifice a little bass.......

I listen to allsorts...... hip-hop, rap, dance, trance, pop etc etc and i would describe myself as a bit of a bass head but when listening to music through the PFE's i don't really miss the extra kick as i like all the little "extra" details you would not normally hear!

The PFE's are very comfy and you forget they are there over a while. I have both types of tips, foam & silicone and i use both. the foam tips are better for sound isolation where i find the silicone easier to put in and will last longer.

BTW, if you listen to MP3 format now i suggest upgrading all your music to high quality as the PFE's will pick out how crap MP3 format is and you will not like it after hearing a HQ track you would never go back........

Hope that is of some use mate

so you can hear a significant amount of difference between flac and mp3 in the PFE012?
or you need to be very professinal to hear the difference?
also, where can i get flac music? without CD

also, how about eyptomic mc5? what is it like? heard some good reviews of it

It is hard to say if the level of bass in the Beyer would effect your ear adversely. What headphones have caused this problem in the past?:(
