I don't know if Apple has anything other than iTunes, but there's a wide choice of software for cueing up and playing music on the PC. I wonder what everyone prefers these days?

I like Foobar at the moment; I'm not really into playlists and other features but I like this as I can just drag files onto the player as and when I fancy it. It's very customisable but perhaps a bit too complex if you want to delve that deeply. Foobar has a nice program for Android too (I cannot bring myself to say App - ugh).

Mediamonkey for me, easy to use, customizable and if you buy the license you get on-the-fly conversion if you need it.

As far as I know, the most difficult-to-find feature in a digital player is a good parametric equalizer, with a WYSIWYG graphic result screen. Any such player is a candidate for me. Note that these players apply the EQ digitally before the data hits the DAC, so it doesn't matter which DAC and/or amp you use in the system - you get the same basic results.
