Some people love a very warm and relaxed sound. I think these might work well for someone who has a lot of low bit rate music that they will never get round to updating with higher quality versions. I tend to find this kind of sound signature helps disguise low quality files but also muddies higher quality files - they are not really my cup of tea either but they do look quite nice and as you mentioned some people are bound to love them.:)

The P3 earpads are not actually very soft and comfortable like the P5, or several other similar designs like the Bose QC3, OE2, or H/K CL. After some use they tend to pinch the pinnae.

I think the headphone is very durable, except the cords. We've replaced 2 cords so far with the P5. I found the P3 sound tolerable for outdoor use with a treble boost, but too much boost is required for hi-fi use, making the EQ'd highs a bit uneven.
