Hey there. I just ordered a senn HD 439 for use with my nexus 5 phone. Will adding an amp to it give any benefit to overall listening experience. Also suggest if the same can be achieved by buying a separate mp3 player having an equalizer ?
    Thanx

If you connect the amp to the headphone jack of the Nexus5 then you will be amplifying an already-amplified sound. The dynamics may be better, but the sound quality (technically at least) will be worse.

The only practical ways to improve sound as far as I know are:

    1) Get a DAC/amp that runs from the Nexus5 USB port.
    2) If the Nexus5 has a Line Out port like the iPhone, connect the amp there.
    3) Get a good portable media player like the FiiO X3 or X5.

EQ may help the sound some, but it requires some of the amplifier power, so there would be less power available for the headphone.

That's way outside my budget. Can you suggest some cheaper alternatives around 50$. Will Sony nwz b172 or 183 serve the purpose.

I don't know any products like that, so maybe someone else here can make a suggestion.
