I like to use a portable DAB radio which uses the phones lead as an aerial,I often suffer from signal strength problems.Does anyone know of any phones that are 'high gain' with respect to radio signals and reasonable sound quality.

How well a headphone cable works as an aerial is dependant on a number of factors, including the conductor material, length of the cable and how good the shielding is.
I'm afraid I don't know what conductor works best as an aerial (copper or steel), or what lengths suit what wavelengths. I would think that less shielding on the cable would give better signal strength. Normally more shielding is a good thing as it stops interference from nearby electronic devices, but in this instance less shielding will give you a better radio signal.
