Innovative vent holes in the housing of the IE800 direct the air flow in a specific direction resulting in minimal distortion levels. Sennheiser's revolutionary dampened two chamber absorbers eliminate the masking of low volume frequencies by absorbing the energy from the loud low-frequency sounds.
With scratch-resistant ceramic housing, stainless steel air vents and Kevlar coated audio cable the IE800 is sure to deliver long lasting pleasure. Two protective meshes, one situated in the ear cushion and one in the cone protects the IE800 against residue and contamination.

- The best possible sound IF you can do without the isolation
by Malcolm on 17/09/2016 Always been a fan of armature based IEMs, but decided to have a try with the dynamic IE800s. Being used to memory-foam tips with all my other IEMs, my first day with the IE800s was very frustrating as I tried to find a fit. The supplied silicon tips are comfortable, but I found the feeling of an insecure fit and almost total lack of external noise isolation disconcerting. In the end I forced some foam tips onto the IE800s, this gave me a secure fit and sound isolation, but killed the sound. So, back to experimenting with the supplied tips. Eventually I discovered the correct positioning was with the medium silicon tips, just making a light seal in the outer part of the ear canal. A much shallower insertion than I am used to with say Shure SE846s.
BUT it was worth the effort. Using the supplied tips and correct insertion provided the best sound that I have ever achieved with IEMs. Using a Sony ZX-2 DAP into a Chord Hugo DAC/amp the IE800s produce a detailed, airy sound, with plenty of bass extension, and a much bigger soundstage than my deeper inserted armature designs. Sounding closer to the full size HD800s (perhaps this is no surprise).
So, in a quiet venue and sitting still, the best possible sound is available with the IE800. However, I wouldn't dream of trying to use these in the gym, or even sittng still in a noisy plane.
