A marvelous Achievement!

This product was my first foray into the world of high-end audio gear, along with a Sony NWZ-A829 DAP back in April 08 (a portable set-up/rig). I have since aquired a set of Shure SE530's, Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Pro's and, very recently, a set of Klipsch Custom 2's (I got them cheap on a short-time deal from another company). The SA6, as one might expect, bests the Custom 2's (a richer, fuller sound, with significantly better bass response and much wider and deeper soundstage), and, impressively- particulary when one considers that these are single, balanced armature driver technology earphones- competes for SQ with the two other, 3 driver earphones I own! It is also a pioneer in the IEM world, for enabling some user customisation of the core sound of the headphone via interchangeability of bass ports and/or treble tubes, to alter the prominence of these areas of the frequency range reproduced. This in itself, though in actuality quite subtle in how much it affects the sound signature, is very functional and much more than a gimmick; quite an achievment! Onto the sonic character of these phones now and they deliver an all-round pretty neutral sound signature, that is definitely mids focused, these being slightly forward co paratively to the other regions of the frequency spectrum (bass and highs), that are warm and lush with excellent, enchanting vocals. The bass and highs are not neglected or roll-off however! The highs have that touch of shimmer and sparkle that endear them to the ear, being crisp and detailed. They are well-extended and delivered at a good volume ie are not rolled-off. The bass is considered by some (bassheads, maybe?) a weakpoint of this earphone. As far as I'm concerned, not true. The bass is punchy, detailed and defined but maybe lacking a little in quantity out the box (I feel it is more than adequate with the bass + port in place, some EQ on my source and a resistor adaptor (120 Ohm) in use; a simple mod is also performable on the bass + port- you push a pin through the small hole already present in the port to enlargen it- that significantly boosts bass quantity). Of course, both the bass and treble response are customiseable to a point, via the VQ system. On top of this, you get an IEM that is physically very small and unobstrusive; that has replaceable cables (if your cable breaks just replace it and not the whole phone at a reduced cost!); now, though I havn't tried it yet, wireless functionality (using KLEER technology meaning lossless/CD quality) via the wireless adaptor acessory; and are backed by a customer service that is, literally, second to none. Buy with confidence and assurance of quality.

Brilliant

Great pair of headphones that you can customise alot. Very good sound quality and the modular design is no gimmick, I do notice changes in bass and trebles. I'd firmly recommend this. If you're planning to use this with an mp3 player then I'd suggest the Creative Zen X-Fi, sure it's not as user friendly or as sleek as an iPod, but they can't beat the sound quality in this thing.

Best IEM's I've tried

I used to be a Shure fan with the e2c, 3c and 4c in my bag. I was thinking of going to the e5c but the price put me off a little. The SA6 came with a money back offer so I gave them a try. Wow these are clear and bright. Isolation with the supplied dual flange tips is very good. It is hard to describe IEMs as having a soundstage but these are getting there. I would strongly recommend getting a pair of these modular phones and setting up the tubes with your preferred set up. Mine is Bass + and Treble +. Enjoy the music more with these fine earpieces.
